Great ramen, fantastic flavor. They gave a really great portion size too! I wasn't so impressed with the interior situation, it's pretty cramped and loud. Luckily, we were at the bar away from everyone else. The ramen itself was great! Service was a little bit slow, mostly due to the busy interior I assume. Loved the tonkatsu with the corn!

Unbeatable prices for ramen in the Salt Lake + Provo area! They even do half-size ramen for those who have a smaller appetite. If you like chashu, their chashu ramen gives a lot of meat! The restaurant is small, so sometimes the wait can be long. Join on Yelp waitlist! They don't take phone orders, but you can order takeout on their website.

Asa Ramen was great! They are located in a very popular area in town--right across from the mall on State Street. However, I feel like they are easy to miss, if you aren't paying attention, especially being on the side of State Street. I visited Asa Ramen on a Friday night and there was plenty of people in the restaurant. I waited at the door and then they told me I could sit at one of the empty spots at the bar. They placed a caddy with sauces in my area of the bartable and then directed me to their QR code menu. Jokes on them, I can't go anywhere without looking at the menu so I already knew what I wanted. I probably wouldn't have ordered this otherwise, but a group near me ordered the karaage chicken and it looked amazing. So I ended up getting the tonkotsu ramen with the chicken as the appetizer. The food came out pretty fast--especially the chicken. However, it was hot and tasted fresh. I expected the sauce to be a bit more flavorful. It was still good but I would've loved a bit more bold flavor with the sauce. The ramen was also pretty good. The broth was great and everything inside the ramen tasted great as well. It was super filling and I was not able to finish the chicken or the ramen by myself. As for the service, it was pretty top notch. Mike was especially super personable with everyone. Everything came out quickly and as expected. The food was good and the prices were fair. I'd love to come back to try one of their buns for the appetizer next time as well!

I just went through thinking that good Japanese style ramen cannot be easily made in the US, (see my Portland Afuri review), then I came across this little place. We were traveling and we were looking for some place to eat. The nearest place with high marks was Asa Ramen. Well, I am always in for ramen, but always not expecting much. This little tiny shop was nothing to look at so I went in not expecting much. Inside, most of the workers all looked to be college type students - working their first jobs. They had a tonkotsu ramen which everyone ordered. Believe me, I was not expecting much. When I asked for the bamboo shoots (menma), they had no idea what it was and I heard them keep talking and asking about what it was. When we got the bowl, it looked pretty good! Everyone was enjoying it and I have to admit the broth was among the best I have tasted in the US. It was smooth and rich and had great flavor! When I ate some noodles, which were cooked perfectly, I felt the noodles were maybe a bit thick or that they were not "grabbing" onto the broth as well as they could have. Another issue was that the egg was slightly overcooked, however, upon tasting it, it was very good. I'm going to say that while the workers may not have known that much about ramen, whoever is in the kitchen is very knowledgeable and has managed to produce one of the best tonkotsu ramen broth I have tasted in the US and makes me think that a really good bowl of ramen CAN exist here. The broth itself was better than pretty much every place I have tasted in Hawaii. Really good! With an adjustment to the noodles and a minor tweak on the egg, this is a superior ramen. Oh, did I mention that they char the chashu using a blowtorch before serving? It adds to the flavor and adding a little chili oil to this ramen took it up a notch too!

Asa Ramen really is one of our hidden gems in Utah County. I still have yet to find a ramen that is better in our valley. And it's still reasonably priced! I also appreciate that they have full size and half size options. The half size is plenty enough for me. Especially since I want some of their appetizers are well because their appetizers are delicious. Their gyoza are some of the best around. Shrimp tempura is lightly battered and crisp. Service has always been very helpful and upbeat. So glad we have Asa here!

OK, full disclosure this is not the best ramen I've ever had. The noodles were slightly too chewy in my opinion and the broth was a little on the salty side. HOWEVER, the owner (I think their name was Jess?) is literally the sweetest human on the planet. They were so friendly with everyone and made extra effort to interact with customers. The broth itself tasted really good, it was just a little too salty and I wasn't able to finish it due to that. Everything was prepared quickly which was awesome. I will say I don't think the restaurant has AC, we were legit sweating while we were seated there eating hot soup which isn't the most fun lol. A lot of the vents in the restaurant looked super sus (they were covered with like 5 inches of lint.) Go check this place out and meet the owner! It's a fun place to try!

Now this is ramen! Pleasantly surprised by Asa Ramen. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, my husband ordered the miso ramen, and we shared the takoyaki, and edamame. The broth in the tonkotsu was rich and slightly smoky, the chashu was tender, the egg was cooked perfectly, and everything tasted great. The Takoyaki tasted fresh and was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The edamame portion was huge. I tried the miso broth from my husband's bowl and it was also excellent. Service was quick, and the bill was very reasonable. We will definitely be back. このラーメンうまい!
